The Panorama FFA Chapter chose to give back to the community that supports them year round with a new charitable event this holiday season.

In addition to their annual winter coat, glove and hat drives, the chapter used $1,500 of the money raised from their fruit fundraiser to purchase three meals a day for 10 days for 10 families in need in the Panorama community. The chapter enlisted the help of the family and consumer science students to plan the ingredients to be purchased for the healthy balanced meals. The group also received discounts from the Jefferson Hy-Vee in purchasing the goods for the 300 meals. Last week, the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office and Panora EMS made the food deliveries to the families.

FFA member Hope Arganbright shares how it felt to give back to the community, “It just felt really great like it was really exciting to do and it was fun, and it just felt good knowing that 10 families aren’t going to have to worry and be so concerned about how they’re going to feed their own families for 10 days over the holidays.”

FFA Advisor Evan Babcock said in the end the students felt it was the best $1,500 they had ever seen spent. Babcock hopes to see “Meals for the Homeland” become an annual event for the Panorama High School and community.
