As agricultural producers are in the offseason from harvest, the second event of a monthly conversation series takes place this Friday.

Guthrie County Extension is hosting Farmer’s Coffee from 9:30-11 a.m. at their office in Guthrie Center. This month’s event is sponsored by the Guthrie County Cattlemen and the featured speaker will be ISU Extension Beef Specialist Erika Lundy. Lundy serves Region 4 of the state, and she shares while there have been struggles in several agricultural markets in Iowa there is a positive outlook for beef producers, “I think one thing that’s maybe been our benefit lately so maybe cattle prices haven’t been that great but we’ve also had some pretty relatively cheap feed prices. So I think that’s been able to help us kind of maintain our cow herd to keep some of our animals here. I’m hopeful that in the next couple of years we’ll see some opportunity to try to build the herd, maybe retain some more heifers and try to grow Iowa’s beef cow numbers.”

This event is free to attend and pre-registration is not required. Coffee and treats will be provided. Farmer’s Coffee takes place the first Friday of each month through March.
