Nick Schroeder talks about football transfer from Iowa Western to Central AK

When 2017 Greene County High School graduate Nick Schroeder left Jefferson to join the football team at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs nearly 1-1/2 years ago, he joined one of the elite community college programs in the nation. He figured playing time could be tough to come by, and it was. The Rievers are a program that wins NJCAA national titles and is a regular pipeline for players to make the leap to NCAA DI programs. That’s what happened with the 6′ 4″ wide receiver, but not like many might think.

Schroeder’s parents were back in Jefferson last week visiting relatives over the holidays when he visited with Raccoon Valley Radio and told the story of how he ended up where he is. Schroeder’s parents, Jeff and Amy, moved the family to Little Rock, AK in the summer of 2017. “I was still at Iowa Western in Spring Ball after my freshman year, when UCA (University of Central Arkansas in Conway) coaches attended practice. They liked what they saw, offered me a scholarship opportunity, and I took it.”

The Bears are a Division I program in the Football Championship Subdivision, the same level as the University of Northern Iowa, North Dakota State, and others. Schroeder told Raccoon Valley Radio he did not play in 2018 due to a problem with credits from a high school class not transferring, but that he will be eligible in the Fall of 2019 and will have three years of eligibility remaining.
