Perry Library Offering Fine Amnesty through “Resolve to Read” Program

Between January 1st and 31st, patrons of the Perry Public Library who have overdue book fines are invited to get rid of those charges thanks to a special promotion.

The “Resolve to Read” library fine amnesty program allows patrons of any age to arrange to read books at the library in order to work off their fines. Each 15-minute segment that they spend reading will equal $1 in fine forgiveness. Kids still too young to read by themselves can still take advantage of the program by having a parent or caregiver read with them. Library Director Mary Murphy says the intention of the program is to provide a fresh start for patrons who have stopped checking out books because of their account balance.

Murphy adds, the program is only applicable to overdue book fines, and won’t cover fees incurred from lost or damaged materials. For more information on “Resolve to Read,” stop in or call the Perry Library at 515-465-3569.
