Departure of Coach Moore confirmed by Greene County School email

Earlier this month, Greene County activities director and head football coach Mitch Moore informed his coaching staff and players he was leaving the district to become the head football coach at Des Moines Roosevelt. He talked with Raccoon Valley Radio on Dec. 14, stating he expected to be leaving in a few months with no exact departure date.

Early today (Dec. 28) Raccoon Valley Radio received word from a member of the public via text that Coach Moore had met with Superintendent Tim Christensen Thursday (Dec. 27) and the Coach/AD had been told he was being released from his employment with the district. Attempts to reach the Superintendent for comment at his office and via cell phone have been unsuccessful. Raccoon Valley Radio was told Mr. Christensen is gone until Jan. 3.

An email with the following statement from the school district was received by Raccoon Valley Radio at 12:22 p.m. today. Here is the release in its entirety.

As the Greene COunty Schools move forward in hiring a new football coach, strength and conditioning coordinator and activities director, we will be releasing Mitch Moore from his activities director and strength and conditioning coordinator contracts. Coach Moore’s duties will end as of December. As a district it is important that we move forward increasing participation, building unity and culture, focusing on sportsmanship and developing youth programs. We want to thank Coach Moore for his service to the Greene County Schools and our student athletes. We also want to wish Coach Moore the best of luck at Des Moines Roosevelt.

Coach Moore was reached by Raccoon Valley Radio by phone and he confirmed he was told he was being let go. The Coach told Raccoon Valley Radio he was unclear as to the reason why, but he added the news was very upsetting to him and his family. Coach Moore added the Jefferson house the Moore family lives in was listed for sale as of Thursday.
