Basketball Rams prepare for Saydel

The first Greene County High School basketball games of 2019 are at Saydel High School in Des Moines this Friday night. It’s a girl/boy doubleheader that can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Coverage begins at 5:45 p.m. with girls playing at 6 p.m. and the boys to follow.

All four teams have found victories difficult to come by. The Greene County boys have the best record among these four teams at 4-6, but the Rams are 2-4 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference games and enter January having lost their last three games. The only two seniors on the team, Lance Hughes and Trey Hinote, both average between 20 and 21 points per game, but both have had ankle issues. Head Coach Chris Nelson expects both to be in the lineup Friday night.

The Saydel boys have two wins so far this season, but both are outside the conference against Class 1A teams with losing records.

First year girls’ head coach Tyler Westhoff has yet to get into the win column as a head coach. The Rams are 0-9 and averaging just 20 points per game. The good news for the Rams is that Saydel is 0-10 and also averages 20 points per contest.
