Dallas County Conservation is getting ready to host another event featuring its most unique staff member: Strix, the barred owl.

Strix will be the focal point to the latest program in Conservation’s “A Conversation with an Owl” series. The owl injured her wing a long time ago, and though she was nursed back to health by the County naturalists, she has been flightless ever since. In spite of the handicap, Strix has proven to be a useful and entertaining learning tool for people of all ages. The upcoming program will be held Thursday, January 10th at the Kuehn Conservation Area from 7-8 p.m. It will focus on educating attendees about the many owl species that can be found in Dallas County, while also giving them a chance to ask Strix questions directly, which she will respond to in her own way.

The program is free to attend, though registration is required. To sign up or for more information, stop in or call Forest Park Museum at 515-465-3577.
