Five rated HOIAC hoops teams

So far the 2018-19 basketball seasons for the Greene County Rams haven’t been filled with victories, but the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference, of which Greene County is a member, is making its mark in the statewide polls. Five HOIAC teams (three girls and two boys) show up in various top 10 statewide polls.

The North Polk (Alleman) girls are ranked number one in Class 3A. The Comets are 6-0 in conference games, one game ahead of number 11 Roland-Story (Story City) and number 14 Gilbert. Nevada is in fourth place in the girls’ conference with a 4-2 record, followed by PCM (Monroe) and South Hamilton (Jewell), both at 2-4. Greene County and Saydel (Des Moines) are both 0-6 in league play and neither has won a game so far this season.

Gilbert leads the HOIAC in boys’ basketball. The Tigers are 6-0 in conference games and ranked number eight in 3A. SH is ranked fifth in 2A and the only loss for the Hawks is to Gilbert. PCM also has just one conference loss and both the Mustangs and Hawks are 5-1 in the conference. Greene County, Nevada, R-S and NP are all 2-4 in the league, while Saydel is 0-6.

The Greene County teams resume play on Friday, Jan. 4 in Des Moines vs. the Saydel teams. That girl/boy doubleheader can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
